Kargopol Toys

The craft is concentrated around the town Kargopol (Arkhangelskaya oblast, North-West Russia). Compositions include ladies with birds, two-headed horses with riders, hen-like birds and animals in human dress. In the 20^th century genre scenes became popular, horseback riding, for example, or craftsmen at work. In the color range green, light blue, red and black are dominant; thin geometrical ornamentation is common in the painting.
