Sudzha Toys

Toys from Sudzha, a town in Kursk oblast situated on the river Sudzha. The craft is first mentioned in the 17^th century. The toys are mainly whistles in the shape of somewhat rudimentary birds, human figures and imaginary animals, all of which, typically, have three supporting ‘legs’. They are not painted, but covered with glaze, the color of which varies from dark-brown to light beige.
