Susanino Toys

This type of toy comes from Susanino Village (Kostroma oblast) and has been known since the 19^th century. The toys are glazed, not painted, but have ornamentation scratched on the surface. Typically the figures are supported on three ‘legs’, i. e. two front legs and a ‘tail’ formed by the mouth-piece of the whistle.
