Tula Toys

This type of toy has been produced in Tula (Central Russia) since the 18^th century in imitation of porcelain figurines. The main compositional themes and figure types are taken from urban culture: a lady with her beau, a nurse-maid with a baby, a boy on a horse. Elements of 19^th century urban dress are used in the decoration and elongated proportions are also characteristic.
